Altavoz to Distribute the Kansas City Band’s Concept Album and Comic Book
With the addition of Gran Calavera as Altavoz’s latest label partner comes the right to distribute Kansas City punk rock band The Architects’ latest project – a concept album and comic book bundle. Border Wars: Episode 1, the first of five installments, comes as a 72-page, full-color comic book accompanied by a six-track soundtrack and will be available for purchase this Fall. The Architects aim to “redefine and re-establish the modern idea of ‘doing something big’” with this ambitious release. Altavoz co-CEO Nelson Jacobsen says of the project, “We can’t wait to get The Architects’ product onto retailers’ shelves because we love the idea of a band coming together to create an album and a comic book that go hand-in-hand.”
Says the Architects, “We’re doing this because we’re jealous of Green Day and we’re jealous of the Foo Fighters and of Queen and The Who because they’re all able to give their fans an experience that cuts deeper than a catchy single, an album concept or a flashy stage show. That’s a very genuine and sincere gift that an artist can give his or her fans. Telling a bigger, better story is the most natural way we could ask people to share some laughs, tension, tears and some relief with us. It’s the best way we could think of to share more of who we are and what we’re about.”
Border Wars is set in a southwest Texas town and follows Tom, the son of a televangelist, and Josie, a runaway, as they meet some of the city’s most corrupt and crooked. The Architects’ six new songs that soundtrack the story have been featured on entertainment news outlets A.V. Club and Under the Gun Review, where the album received a nine out of ten rating and was described as being “the band’s best effort to date.” The comic book was designed by Mallory Dorn, whose illustrations help “define the unique vision the band has constructed.”
In support of their previous four albums, The Architects have toured with such big-name acts as My Chemical Romance, Frank Turner, and Flogging Molly. The Architects will be hitting the road again this Fall with tour dates in the works for Chicago, Baltimore, New York City, and other major music markets.
