Dawn Richard, former Danity Kane and Diddy Dirty Money singer/songwriter, will be releasing the first installment of “The Heart Trilogy” at the beginning of this coming year. This album, titled GoldenHeart, will have a total of 16 tracks, including 14 songs and two interludes. If you haven’t already, be sure to check out the EP, Armor On, which Dawn released earlier this year as a prelude to the trilogy. As she describes it, Armor On is “like the introduction to a book.” It certainly flows like one; it has a definite story and momentum to it. We encourage you to make some space for story time, á la Armor On.
Though I know you Hearts out there are dying to get your hands on Dawn’s new album, you’ll have to hold it together until January 15th, 2013, when it will be released. But we all know it’s certainly worth the wait. So mark your calendars! And don’t feel bad about gifting the album to yourself when it does come out–it’ll be a great way to start the new year. @MTKigZ tweeted during Dawn’s Twitter Q&A session this past week, “I’m happy that the album has been pushed back. January 2013 is the perfect time & I’ve set aside money [for] when the day comes.” We certainly agree.
Though Dawn’s album release is still a couple months away, Dawn performed her new songs exclusively at S.O.B.’s in New York on late last month. SKYE was there as the opening act. If you missed it, don’t panic! She plans on touring after the album drops.
In the meantime, you can get the first single off the GoldenHeart album, ” ’86,” from iTunes, Amazon, or Google Play. You can also follow her on Twitter where you can join her more than 1.34 million followers, who she adoringly calls her “Hearts.” And if you just can’t get enough of Dawn, like us, you can also read about her journey to where she is today on her blog. Dawn’s social media presence gives you Hearts out there opportunities to connect with her, like through the Twitter Q&A session she held about her new album release. We love that we can get so up close and personal with Dawn.
She’s a great role model with an interesting background. If you weren’t aware, Dawn attended the University of New Orleans on a full scholarship — she’s smart. Her business sense directed her choice after Danity Kane and Diddy Dirty Money disbanded, to stay with Bad Boy Records but wait several years for her turn to go solo, or risk everything and leave to make it happen on her own. She did the latter. So now businesswoman/singer/songwriter Dawn Richard is bravely pursuing her dreams as an independent artist, with help from her small yet strong team. The choice Dawn made to leave the safety and comfort of Bad Boy Records and pave her own independent path is admirable. It shows her commitment to staying true to herself and her vision, despite the challenges. And from what we can tell from her EP, Armor On, it was certainly worth it. I bet you can’t wait to hear what’s next.
