Imagine what would have happened on a Friday!? If you are a fan of live music in the DMV, punk, AND missed Tuesday night’s show at Comet Ping Pong, I feel really sorry for you, really I do. Even the parents of some of the Mean Jeans showed up, so you have no excuse. I was really impressed by the turnout. I arrived early, and it was pretty packed before the show even started; a recipe for a fun-filled night. If you missed the show, it’s okay, you can get the music and see some of the action below.
HOLLYWOOD (@HOLLYWOOOD) had no problem warming up the crowd. The lead singer, Tim, invited everybody to bring themselves to the front of the stage, so everybody did just that. It could have been all of the DC Brau that made everyone so friendly, but I think it was the need to fuel their punk rock gas tanks. After watching the thrashing hair and head bangin’ to some great rock, I was thirsty for more great tunes (beer, too). This marked the final Dicks In Space tour date for HOLLYWOOD, but I know they will be releasing a new album soon, so pay attention. You can find updates about HOLLYWOOD and other great punk bands on the Big Neck Records website. If you didn’t get enough of HOLLYWOOD at the show or you missed it, fear not. You can find HOLLYWOOD’s album “Stunts” on white / black vinyl LP that includes a digital copy of the album, or on a CD at Crooked Beat Records (@CrookedBeatDC) in Adams Morgan. The owner, Bill, can also teach you a thing or two about some great music, so be sure to chat him up as well.
Concert attendee, James, had this to say about his experience at their show.
“HOLLYWOOD provided a fitting soundtrack for pizza, beer, and general rowdiness. It was a great rock n’ roll show”
I also had the pleasure of meeting Pablo after the show. Lucky for all of us, Pablo got some great footage of the show, and he’s let us share it with you. Be sure to leave a comment to thank Pablo for carting around his camera equipment, and spending valuable concert time filming. Here is his review on how the Dicks In Space tour was for him. Here is Pablo’s YouTube channel where you can see footage from the show, and other shows he has covered. Be sure to leave us a comment, share photos, whatever.
“The HOLLYWOOD, The Shirks, and Mean Jeans show at Comet was a great show with an awesome vibe that felt like a rock and roll house party held at a venue with quality sound and an enthusiastic crowd.”
Great to hear Pablo! I had a great time too.
Read on to find out more about the concert, The Shirks and The Mean Jeans….
Local DC band The Shirks were up next to rock Comet, and so they did. Watch their set in the YouTube video recorded by Pablo below.
When everybody started screaming for slime, we all knew that it was time for the Mean Jeans (@Mean_Jeans). The back room at Comet was packed solid, but what was really impressive was how a mere three musicians could pack that much noise into their set. The crowd consisted of a healthy sized mosh pit in front of the stage. What really set them off was when the Mean Jeans played the intro to “Bombtrack” from rock legends Rage Against The Machine. On the other hand, it could have been the Jagermeister they drank on stage, or perhaps the dangerously empty bottle I spotted backstage that drove the band to move the audience in such a way.
Thanks to everybody for showing up. I hope you enjoyed the show as much as I did.
