Note to those who engage in music piracy: When you buy instead of bootlegging, you’re paying the band. That’s Good. Consider this as well: What if you could donate to a non-profit organization by simply purchasing your favorite music in a store or online? By paying for the music, you’re not only helping the artist continue to make music for your enjoyment, but you help people improve their lives, especially those who need it most.
Altavoz follows a superior business model with a social conscience, one that also upholds the values of the owners and employees. We give 5% of our revenue to our nonprofit arm, The Help Earth Foundation. All of our artists agree to do the same — or they can give to a charity of their choice. In addition, we recognize a common industry flaw — artists are not receiving all the revenue or royalties they deserve for their recorded music. While this is a complicated issue, Altavoz breaks through the clutter by giving artists the option to own stock in our company, so they can succeed through the sale of their own music AND do well as shareholders as other artists in our system do well.
With many Americans upset over corporate greed and unpractical politics, it’s nice to be working for a company that is taking some responsibility and fighting back — the experts call it “corporate social responsibility”. I call it being proud to give back everyday, feeling good about my employer, and making a difference in the world.
And always remember — buy indie, support local!
